How to start trading gold with a small amount
You can start trading gold (XAUUSD) with a small amount by opening an account with a licensed broker, practising on a demo first, trading the smallest size (0.01 lots) and risking about 1% of the account per trade. Most small accounts are lost through high leverage and no stop loss, not through bad ideas.
Authorized in the UAESaad Nizar El Soussi, founder of SesTrading, is listed by the UAE Capital Market Authority as an authorized finfluencer (entry 193, added 24 September 2026). Check the official list.
Five steps
- Learn the basics: what XAUUSD is, what a lot is, what leverage and margin are.
- Choose a broker and check its licence on the regulator's own website. Account in your own name only.
- Practise on a demo account for at least two weeks.
- Go live with the smallest size, 0.01 lots, and a stop loss on every trade.
- Keep a simple journal: why you entered, where your stop was, what happened.
How much one move costs you
| Size | Gold moves $1 | Gold moves $10 |
|---|---|---|
| 0.01 lot | about $1 | about $10 |
| 0.10 lot | about $10 | about $100 |
| 1.00 lot | about $100 | about $1,000 |
Common mistakes
- Trading big sizes to "grow the account fast".
- Moving or removing the stop loss.
- Trading every news spike.
- Following anyone who promises guaranteed profit.

Questions people ask
Can I trade gold with $100?
Technically yes, with 0.01 lots, but a single bad day can take a large share of it. Practise on demo first.
Is gold trading halal?
Scholars differ, especially on leverage and overnight fees. Many brokers offer swap-free (Islamic) accounts. Ask a scholar you trust.
